Each month, MCL will be highlighting a member of our staff to bring you in closer to our family. This month we will be focusing on Bianca Reid, who is a mature aged apprentice painter and decorator.
Starting off all the way back in her school ‘B’ was destined for a career as a painter, even though she may not have thought so back then.
“My pre apprenticeship in year 11 was a bad experience,” Bianca says, “though I always enjoyed painting throughout school. So I went into administration work for four years.”
Knowing that sitting behind a desk was not something for her, Bianca found her way to MCL to pursue her painting aspirations. She joined as a mature aged apprentice and has recently completed her first year.
She cites Andrew Beardsall, a senior painter at MCL, as one of her inspirations to continue on with the trade.
“Andrew has definitely given me a lot of knowledge and guidance. He has been a really good teacher and has kept me wanting to to keep up with the trade,” says Bianca.
She gave a word of advice to women who are looking to enter the trades:
“Even if you have a bad experience stick to it, because at the end of the day you have a trade to your name. You are learning something that you are never going to lose.”
As she pushes towards finishing her apprenticeship Bianca is excited to learn as much as she can!
Thank you, Bianca, for all you do!
